Lecture 3 covers the key components of a control system and terminology. We'll cover common terminology used in control system design, types of controllers, and control modes. It is important to learn these basic concepts as a foundation for the rest of the semester.
The key components of a control system and terminology are presented in this lecture. Common terminology used in control system design, types of controllers, and control modes are also covered. It is important to learn these basic concepts as a foundation for the rest of the semester.
Lecture 3 covers the key components of a control system. We'll have a group activity to help learn some of the control system basics. We'll also start working with controllers in the time-domain. It is important to gain an intuitive understanding of gain, time constant, dead time before studying systems in the Laplace domain.

As part of the lecture, there is a group activity to learn the principal parts of a control system and become familiar with some basic control strategies.
Homework
- Course reading for next class: Chapter 3 (PPC).
- Assignment due by the start of Lecture #4:
Don't forget that the first part of each homework assignment is to write a sentence or two stating the purpose of the problem and what concept is reinforced. A listing of all the Special Problems are found in the Homework section.
